Example 1: Athlete Tests Positive for COVID-19

A baseball team has a tournament scheduled. One player tests positive for COVID-19 so the entire team is required to quarantine, and the team must withdraw from the tournament. 

This is a covered reason for cancellation benefits and would reimburse for the prepaid, non-refundable trip payments and deposits that would otherwise be lost due to the cancelled trip.  The family would need to submit an iTravelInsured Trip Cancellation/ Trip Interruption Claim Form along with the requested documentation of the injury from the medical provider.

Example 2: Family Member Hospitalized with COVID-19

A non-traveling family member is hospitalized with COVID-19 just prior to departure and you must cancel the trip at the last minute to help with their care.

This is a covered cancellation reason. The family would need to submit an iTravelInsured Trip Cancellation/ Trip Interruption Claim Form along with the requested documentation.

Example 3: Healthcare Industry Professional & COVID-19

You work in the healthcare industry, and just prior to departure there is a spike in COVID-19 cases and your employer revokes your time off because you are required to work. 

This is a covered cancellation reason. The family would need to submit an iTravelInsured Trip Cancellation/ Trip Interruption Claim Form along with the requested documentation.

Example 4: State Travel Ban

A team is scheduled to travel to a state and a travel ban or quarantine requirement is instituted for anyone entering the state within 30 days of departure. If you purchased your insurance policy prior to the travel ban, being instituted this is a covered reason for cancellation and you would be eligible up to the insured amount for reimbursement of your prepaid non-refundable trip payments. 

If the policy were purchased after the travel ban was in effect it would not be a covered reason for reimbursement under the standard trip cancellation provision, BUT if Cancel For Any Reason coverage is purchased, you’re covered for up to 75% reimbursement of your non-refundable costs as long as you cancel more than two days in advance and the policy is purchased within 20 days of your initial deposit. The family would need to submit an iTravelInsured Trip Cancellation/ Trip Interruption Claim Form along with the requested documentation.

Example 5: Athlete Sustains Injury Prior to the Event

Question: Insured Guest family is attending a sports tournament, but the athlete sustains a fractured collarbone two weeks before the event and receives direction from the doctor not to participate. Does the plan cover this? What documents would the family have to submit?

Answer: This would be a covered reason for cancellation under the sickness, injury or death of the insured, or family member, traveling companion, child caregiver benefit. The family would need to submit an iTravelInsured Trip Cancellation/ Trip Interruption Claim Form along with the requested documentation of the injury from the medical provider.

Example 6: Tournament Cancels Due to Bad Weather

Q. Insured Guest family is attending sports tournament, but the tournament age bracket cancels due to bad weather after just one day of play and one day of delays. The guests have booked for 4 nights. Upon check in the reservation becomes non-refundable.  They wish to check out on day 2.  The hotel charges the full cost for four nights. Is the guest covered by the policy for reimbursement of 2 unused nights?

A. If there was an evacuation order or a closure by the local government authority due to a weather event caused by a natural disaster this would be a covered reason for cancellation and the two nights unused hotel accommodation would be eligible for 100% re-imbursement.  *certain terms apply- please read your policy.

If there wasn’t a closure or evacuation order by a government official and the tournament organizer decides to cancel due to bad weather, the insured could file a claim under the Interrupt For Any Reason benefit and receive a 75% re-imbursement of all of their unused non-refundable cost provided the trip was interrupted 48 hours or more after the actual scheduled departure date. *certain terms apply- please read your policy.

Example 7: Event Cancels Due to Bad Weather

Q. The boys Nationals Super Y Soccer Team has made it to the finals scheduled September 26-27. They will be traveling from Chicago to Miami to attend.

September 20 NOAA issues a hurricane warning in effect from September 21-28. The event is cancelled. What does the policy cover?

A.Each insured is eligible to file a claim under the Trip Cancellation benefits and would receive re-imbursement of 100% of the pre-paid, non-refundable insured trip cost.

The family would need to submit an iTravelInsured Trip Cancellation/ Trip Interruption Claim Form along with the requested documentation.

Example 8: Event Cancels Due to Bad Weather

Q. The 18U Girls Krash Softball Team is scheduled to participate in the April Showers Showdown April 24 – April 25.  ​The week prior to the event massive rains cause flooding throughout the area.  The event is cancelled. What does the policy cover? ​

A. Each insured is eligible to file a claim under the Trip Cancellation benefit and would receive reimbursement of 100% of the pre-paid, non-refundable insured trip costs.​ Due to a Natural Disaster, a mandatory evacuation is ordered or recommended by local government authorities at Your Scheduled Trip Departure City or Scheduled Destination which prevents You from traveling to/arriving at Your Scheduled Trip Departure City or Scheduled Destination.  This benefit only applies if the policy has been purchased within 20 days of the initial trip payment.

The family would need to submit an iTravelInsured Trip Cancellation/ Trip Interruption Claim Form along with the requested documentation.


Example 9: Traffic Accident En Route to Event

Q. XYZ varsity soccer team is scheduled to attend a tournament.  6 team members were riding to an event together.  They were in a documented traffic accident while en route to the destination, while no one was hurt, they are unable to get to the tournament.  The team is now short 4 players and must forfeit. What coverage is provided by the policy.

All insureds would be covered for Trip Cancellation or Trip Interruption benefits. The family would need to submit an iTravelInsured Trip Cancellation/ Trip Interruption Claim Form along with the requested documentation.


Example 10: Insured Unable to Travel Due to Employer Revoking Time Off

The Futsal regional championship tournament is scheduled Thursday thru Sunday.  Prior to confirming the registration and hotel the mother of player number 12 requests the time off and is approved.  One week prior to the event, her employer revokes her vacation time.  What is covered by the policy?

These insureds are eligible to file a claim under the Trip Cancellation benefits and receive reimbursement for 100% of the pre-paid non-refundable insured trip costs.
